At AGBU Alexander Primary School, learning is engaging, meaningful and future-focused. Our educational program combines the NSW Curriculum with a rich Armenian Studies program, providing students with the academic foundation, cultural understanding and personal values required to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Key Learning Areas

English

Science and Technology

Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE)

HSIE helps students understand people, places, history and cultures. Through the study of Australia and the wider world, students develop a sense of identity, citizenship and global responsibility.

  • Civics and citizenship.
  • Diverse cultures and communities.

Creative Arts

Creative Arts provides opportunities for students to express themselves through visual arts, music, drama and performance. Creativity is nurtured through exploration, experimentation and participation in cultural and artistic experiences.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

PDHPE supports students’ physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Through sport, health education and personal development programs, students learn to make positive choices and develop healthy lifestyles.

  • Health and wellbeing.
  • Relationships and personal safety.
  • Teamwork and leadership.

Armenian Studies

A distinctive feature of Alexander School is our comprehensive Armenian Studies program, which enriches students’ learning and strengthens their connection to Armenian language, history, faith and culture.

Armenian Language

The Armenian Language program develops students’ ability to speak, listen, read and write Armenian confidently in both formal and informal contexts. Students engage with classical and contemporary Armenian literature while developing communication skills appropriate to their stage of learning.

By the completion of primary school, students are encouraged to:

  • Speak confidently and communicate effectively in Armenian.
  • Read fluently and comprehend a range of Armenian texts.
  • Write using appropriate grammar, spelling and vocabulary.
  • Appreciate Armenian literature, poetry and storytelling traditions.
  • Continue Armenian language studies into secondary school.

Armenian History, Religion and Culture

Students develop knowledge and understanding of Armenia’s rich heritage, historical events, traditions and faith. The program fosters pride in Armenian identity while encouraging respect for cultural diversity and global citizenship.

  • Significant events and figures in Armenian history.
  • The Armenian Genocide and modern Armenian history.
  • Armenian culture, customs and traditions.
  • The Armenian Apostolic Church and its role in community life.
  • Traditional Armenian music, dance, poetry and art.
  • The contribution of notable Armenians throughout the world.
